Kuala Lumpur – CCM Duopharma Biotech Berhad (CCMD) recorded a 33.7 per cent increase in revenue to RM32.07 million for its fourth financial quarter ended December 31, 2007 (Q407) from RM23.98 million recorded in the corresponding quarter last year.
CCMD also achieved a profit before tax (PBT) of RM11.38 million in that quarter, a growth of 51.9 per cent compared to RM7.49 million in 2006.
Compared to the preceding quarter (Q307), the Group improved its revenue by 15.9 per cent from RM27.68 million while its PBT jumped 15.9 per cent from RM9.82 million. Meanwhile, profit after tax (PAT) grew 19.4 per cent to RM9.01 million in Q407 from RM7.55 million recorded in Q307.
CCMD’s growth in revenue and PBT were attributed to the Group’s continuous effort to enhance its product mix that potentially generates greater returns. The increase in revenue and PAT was primarily due to higher sales within Government hospitals and the private sector.
CCMD recently introduced Donna Forte 500mg, an extension of Donna 250mg, to treat symptoms of osteoarthritis. With Donna Forte 500mg, CCMD aims to penetrate newer markets in Malaysia as well as the ASEAN region. The launch of Donna Forte 500mg follows the recent successful introduction of Diamelon and Legarin. Diamelon is derived from bitter gourd and is traditionally used to maintain general health, while Legarin contains silymarin to promote liver health.
In 2007, CCMD added products such as children’s chewable vitamins Chewies, paracetamol analgesics Milidon and dietary supplements Cosmos, to extend its existing range of products following the CCM Group’s acquisition of Malayan Pharmaceutical’s brands and assets. These products will effectively enrich CCMD’s over-the-counter (OTC) product pipeline, enabling it to capture a bigger share of the market.
CCMD has paid a total dividend of 96 per cent (48 sen) per share for FY07 amounting to approximately RM48.6 million. In 2006, the company declared an interim and final dividend of 14 per cent (7 sen) and 29 per cent (14.5 sen) less tax respectively amounting to approximately RM21.7 million. The Board of Directors does not recommend any final dividend for FY07.
CCM Duopharma Biotech Berhad is a subsidiary of CCM Berhad which is listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia with a market capitalisation of RM1.3 billion and is a key player in the fertilizers, chemicals and pharmaceuticals industries.
